If someone is drunk or high, he or she is not responsible for his or her actions

            I still believe no matter what that this statement is False. As I read and finished the book speak it showed me that even when someone is drunk or high they can do physical harm and not even know. The main character was stuck in this situation where she felt like this statement was false yet everyone around her thought it was true. It pretty much ruined her. She was lost and nobody was on her side. Nobody believed her and she didn’t speak either.

            My first example from the book is when she tells us about the party that she went to. She tells that she drank some beer but everyone was. She says she saw this kid and he was like touching her she was scared."I open my mouth to breathe, to scream, and his hand covers it. In my head, my voice is as clear as a bell: NO I DON'T WANT TO! but i cant spit it out." (135) The main thing was is that he was very drunk. He just kept touching her and she explained that she couldn’t say a word. She was speechless. He hurt her and she let him. He was drunk and never took responsibility for what he had done to her. He was a evil boy that raped a young girl.

            My second case is how in this book it shows the pain that the main character went through when she had to see her rapist."I see IT in the Hallway. It goes to Merryweather. It is walking with Aubrey Cheerleader. It is my nightmare and i can't wake up." (45) She never told anyone and he just kept on harassing her. She had to suffer for so long and she knew that if she did tell somebody for what he did to her they would think that she was lying. She was living with hurt and sorrow and scared always. If only she would speak this would make her so much happier and not have to worry anymore about IT.

            Lastly, She could not last under the pain and sorrow she faced him and he tried to rape her again." He fumbles to hold both wrists in one hand. He wants a free hand. I remember i remember. Metal hands, hot knife hands. No. A sound explodes from me. NNNOOO"(194)  She stood up and told him no. She was stronger now and knew she was not taking anything from anyone. She spoke for the first time and told him that she was done. She was done with him and everyone thinking she was crazy and depressed. She was depressed that she got raped and that nobody would have believed her. That he was drunk and never took responsibility for his own actions and nobody could say wrong. He was bad. She won and she finally could speak.

Persuasaion

Something that i would like to make an arguable point on would have to be about how Melinda never told anyone until it was too late. Why would she wait till he had to physically hurt her and abuse her till she could speak. I thought that was very wrong of her and she should learn from her mistake now and protect herself.

Reader Response

I thought this book was so engaging and addictive. I felt as if i couldn't get my mind to stop reading. The one question i have is " How did Melinda live with this horrible image and accident in her head for so long?". My school is somewhat like this but i'm not sure that any upperclassmen raped a girl in my school.

Compare/ Contrasts

           

In the text one thing that reminds me of something outside of the book is Melinda and her social status. In my school there are multiple groups of diverse people and in Melinda’s high school that’s similar. Melinda seems as though she does not fit in. I think that would be different at my school. Even though everyone has different friends and groups that they fit into doesn’t mean they have nobody, but she doesn’t.

Observations, Inferences, Questions

One thing that I know for sure is that there is definitely something that happened to the main character Mary at some party. She seems to always come back to that and is not telling us the real story of what happened to her. I can make a reasonable guess that she did something or somebody did something to her that made her friends hate her and everybody else. The one thing that remains open to question is what is?

            This statement is absolutely bogus! If someone is drunk or high, she or he is ALWAYS responsible for his or her actions. In the first place they should not be drunk or high to the point where they can’t even function correctly and take responsibility for their actions. Also nobody should ever be high because it’s illegal and you could be fined and get arrested for it. Drinking too much alcohol is also not a smart thing to do either because you lose brain cells and you say and do messed up things.

            My first example of when someone did not take responsibility for their actions was when some girls were drunk during the summer. They had drunken a bunch of alcohol and had gotten pretty messed up. They said and did actions that I know for sure that they wouldn’t have done if they were sober. They ran around like they were animals and broke things and were just so crazy. People found and the girls that got drunk felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I think that they learned their lesson.

            My second exemplar is when this guy named Joe was high and drunk and he was totally out of his mind. He was running around being stupid and he just had no idea what was going on and he fell and knocked his front teeth right out of his mouth. He never felt it or even flinched. He got rushed to the hospital and got new teeth he felt so horrible the next day. This is a good story to learn from and he DID have to take responsibility for what he had done. He was stupid and just didn’t understand.

            I once went to a concert and there were so many drunk people there and it was a awful time. This one woman and her friend were truly out of their minds. They were picking fights with everyone there and just being obnoxious. Then they started throwing up over everyone. They actually had to go to the police department and were arrested for being to drunk. I thought that that was so crazy. They should learn not to drink so much. They did not take any responsibility of there actions.

                I think Carrie Ryan is a phenomenal writer and I heard that there is a serious to this book and I will be reading them and I’m not a big reader but these books are addicting  and I just can’t get enough of them!
