Statement essay #2

If someone is drunk or high, he or she is not responsible for his or her actions
I still believe no matter what that this statement is False. As I read and finished the book speak it showed me that even when someone is drunk or high they can do physical harm and not even know. The main character was stuck in this situation where she felt like this statement was false yet everyone around her thought it was true. It pretty much ruined her. She was lost and nobody was on her side. Nobody believed her and she didn’t speak either.
My first example from the book is when she tells us about the party that she went to. She tells that she drank some beer but everyone was. She says she saw this kid and he was like touching her she was scared."I open my mouth to breathe, to scream, and his hand covers it. In my head, my voice is as clear as a bell: NO I DON'T WANT TO! but i cant spit it out." (135) The main thing was is that he was very drunk. He just kept touching her and she explained that she couldn’t say a word. She was speechless. He hurt her and she let him. He was drunk and never took responsibility for what he had done to her. He was a evil boy that raped a young girl.
My second case is how in this book it shows the pain that the main character went through when she had to see her rapist."I see IT in the Hallway. It goes to Merryweather. It is walking with Aubrey Cheerleader. It is my nightmare and i can't wake up." (45) She never told anyone and he just kept on harassing her. She had to suffer for so long and she knew that if she did tell somebody for what he did to her they would think that she was lying. She was living with hurt and sorrow and scared always. If only she would speak this would make her so much happier and not have to worry anymore about IT.
Lastly, She could not last under the pain and sorrow she faced him and he tried to rape her again." He fumbles to hold both wrists in one hand. He wants a free hand. I remember i remember. Metal hands, hot knife hands. No. A sound explodes from me. NNNOOO"(194)  She stood up and told him no. She was stronger now and knew she was not taking anything from anyone. She spoke for the first time and told him that she was done. She was done with him and everyone thinking she was crazy and depressed. She was depressed that she got raped and that nobody would have believed her. That he was drunk and never took responsibility for his own actions and nobody could say wrong. He was bad. She won and she finally could speak.

Persuasaion

Something that i would like to make an arguable point on would have to be about how Melinda never told anyone until it was too late. Why would she wait till he had to physically hurt her and abuse her till she could speak. I thought that was very wrong of her and she should learn from her mistake now and protect herself.

Reader Response

I thought this book was so engaging and addictive. I felt as if i couldn't get my mind to stop reading. The one question i have is " How did Melinda live with this horrible image and accident in her head for so long?". My school is somewhat like this but i'm not sure that any upperclassmen raped a girl in my school.

Compare/ Contrasts

In the text one thing that reminds me of something outside of the book is Melinda and her social status. In my school there are multiple groups of diverse people and in Melinda’s high school that’s similar. Melinda seems as though she does not fit in. I think that would be different at my school. Even though everyone has different friends and groups that they fit into doesn’t mean they have nobody, but she doesn’t.

Observations, Inferences, Questions

One thing that I know for sure is that there is definitely something that happened to the main character Mary at some party. She seems to always come back to that and is not telling us the real story of what happened to her. I can make a reasonable guess that she did something or somebody did something to her that made her friends hate her and everybody else. The one thing that remains open to question is what is?

If Someone is Drunk or High, He or She is not responsible for his or her Actions

Danielle Miele
If Someone is Drunk or High, He or She is not Responsible for his or her Actions
This statement is absolutely bogus! If someone is drunk or high, she or he is ALWAYS responsible for his or her actions. In the first place they should not be drunk or high to the point where they can’t even function correctly and take responsibility for their actions. Also nobody should ever be high because it’s illegal and you could be fined and get arrested for it. Drinking too much alcohol is also not a smart thing to do either because you lose brain cells and you say and do messed up things.
My first example of when someone did not take responsibility for their actions was when some girls were drunk during the summer. They had drunken a bunch of alcohol and had gotten pretty messed up. They said and did actions that I know for sure that they wouldn’t have done if they were sober. They ran around like they were animals and broke things and were just so crazy. People found and the girls that got drunk felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I think that they learned their lesson.
My second exemplar is when this guy named Joe was high and drunk and he was totally out of his mind. He was running around being stupid and he just had no idea what was going on and he fell and knocked his front teeth right out of his mouth. He never felt it or even flinched. He got rushed to the hospital and got new teeth he felt so horrible the next day. This is a good story to learn from and he DID have to take responsibility for what he had done. He was stupid and just didn’t understand.
I once went to a concert and there were so many drunk people there and it was a awful time. This one woman and her friend were truly out of their minds. They were picking fights with everyone there and just being obnoxious. Then they started throwing up over everyone. They actually had to go to the police department and were arrested for being to drunk. I thought that that was so crazy. They should learn not to drink so much. They did not take any responsibility of there actions.

The girl who made it through the forest of hands and teeth

Danielle Miele
The Girl who made in through the Forest of Hands and teeth
The Forest of Hands and Teeth, Carrie Ryan, Originally published in Hardcover by Delacorte Press in 2009
Genre: Fiction

In this fiction novel there was a girl named Mary who lived in a village of lies and secrets. She lived with death her whole life and wants to know if there is anyone else in the world outside the fences. The day the breach came and the unconsecrated pooled in her village she faced fear and questions of what to do and where to go. She found the gate to the path which was forbidden and went down it. She learned that there is other life and found the ocean that she dreamed about in stories sent down from her mother. Life will go on outside the forest of hands and Teeth.
“A bleak but gripping story…….Poignant and powerful.”
                                                                                -Publishers Weekly, Starred
“Opening The Forest of Hands and Teeth is like cracking Pandora’s Box, a blur of darkness and a precious bit of hope pours out. This is a beautifully crafted, page-turning, powerful novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. “
                                                                                -Melissa Marr, bestselling author
Of wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange
This book comes of a little of everything, love, hope, willpower, strength, and family. Mary grows more mature and learns that everything she heard from her mother was true and that there is a ocean and there is a place with tall buildings. There is life outside the forest.
“His hand slips from the handle and in one motion I swing the scythe away from him and toward Travis. I want nothing more than to close my eyes, to pretend that none of this is real. Everything just a nightmare. But as I swing toward Travis, I see his eyes open. Those impossibly green eyes. He used to hunger for me with those eyes but never in such a viscous way as now. I bury the scythe in his neck, shuddering as I feel it slice through his spinal cord. His eyes lose focus as if he sees through me. His body falls limp, every muscle releasing at once. He is gone Forever.” (PG. 276)
I think Carrie Ryan is a phenomenal writer and I heard that there is a serious to this book and I will be reading them and I’m not a big reader but these books are addicting  and I just can’t get enough of them!

soccer vs family time :)

Value is a thing that everyone wants, but not something that everyone thinks of as the same. Some think of objects being worth value, and others seeing the valuable moments. We all associate things differently, but how do most people think of value. I personally think of something valuable as a special moment that might take your breath away or even someone important. What if everyone thought that valuable meant things having a price, would those special moments be lost?

I pull my socks over my warm feet. I slip in my shin guards, and grab some white tape. I wrap my tape about 4 times moving up around my shin guard extra tight. Its hot and muggy outside and my face is already sweaty but I still gotta go to practice. I grab my one gallon water bottle and push it underneath the dripping ice dispenser.  The loud ice comes smashing out into my water jug. Then the smooth relaxing water swooshes out into the jug. I grab it quick and run down the stairs to my dads truck. After about 5 minutes I arrive to the field and jump out the truck and thank my dad. The first thing that i grab is also the most important thing which is my bright, shiny, magnificent soccer ball. I named her Trudy Lightning, the reason is because its fast and as bright as the moon on a clear night. My whole team knows that its my ball and they love it as much as i do. Lightning is a Adias 450 special edition ball. A whole whooping $20. She is really special to me because when I'm playing soccer nothing else matters. I think of nothing and it clears my mind. It relieves my stress about everyday life. It just makes me feel like me.

The sound of laughter filled the air and the smell of homemade pies and Delicious turkey in the oven made my tongue water with curiosity. The bright lights of the Christmas tree and the little villages my mom puts up every year made the house light up. The warmth of the small fireplace underneath the mantle of various diverse Santa clauses made the house feel so cozy. Everyone is so happy and joyful while opening gifts and talking about the past and the future. The holidays are the precious times that you spend with your family and are the most valuable to me.

Love is a strong word. It should be used wisely. Love would have to  be the exact word that i would use toward my family. They mean more to me than the world, then the universe. Family to me is like thin glass, fragile, beautiful, and can not be played with. My family is dear and so cherished. My mom is my best friend. I can talk to her about anything and everything. My dad is like my role model and a hero to me. My little sister is my baby. Although we fight constantly i lover her so much and don't know what i would do without her. My Grandparents are all my guardian angels I cherish each one in a different way but they are all so special to me. My aunts and uncles are all so sweet and loving and they mean the world to me. The last are my 5 cousins and i have a special bond with each one differently, but the cousin i value the most is my eldest one. Her name is Allison Marie Farr and for some reason we share such a close bond that nobody could break and i love her so much. The people in my life that are most important are my family and they all influence me in different ways and i want to thank them all for that.

Between my brightly colored soccer ball and my special family these two values seem extremely different, but can have similarities when you look at both in different perspectives. My soccer ball helps me play soccer which makes me happy and stress free, and my family makes me happy and stress free as well. But i would never chose something worth value over something valuable to my heart like my family. I would also never not play soccer because its something that i can do for myself.

Meeting someone new

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens- Sean Covey

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian-Junior

Setting-juniors all white school

My story begins with a grown man writing one fantastic book. He loved to write and help to influence other people. This book he is writing is about teens and 7 habits that they should be doing. It shows how teens do some things wrong and right. It’s pretty much like a teen guide on a successful high school and maybe early college life. The authors name is Sean Covey but he is also the main character of the book.  The 7 Habits of highly effective teens is a nonfiction book and Sean is writing based on how he lived through his teen life and also getting help from other teens, showing what mistakes they made and how to fix them.  One day he comes across a kid that probably needed this book a lot.

His name is Junior and he is a great cartoonist growing up in a strange Indian reservation. He has a lot of medical issues but he is a strong kid. Everyone picks on him and he is sick of it. So he moves to an all white American school. Sean was looking for children to interview for his story and came across Junior.

“Hey kid can I ask you a couple of questions for a book I’m writing,” Asked Sean with interest.

“Um I’m not really sure what you’re going to ask but alright,” murmured junior.

“Have you ever heard about bullying or harassment,” questioned Sean?

“Well I think that means when somebody is being mean to you or when you ask them to leave they won’t and keep making you feel bad about yourself.”

“Yeah yeah that’s right, has that ever happened to you before son?”

“Actually yes it has, when I was in my old school these older kids were picking on me because I was slower than them,” explained Junior.

“Well that’s actually something great that I could add into my book,” Said Sean.

“By the way kid I never got your name?”

“My name is Junior and yours?”

“My name is Sean, Sean Covey.”

“It’s weird because I was just like you when I was younger and little shy and nervous but could talk to anybody about anything” whispered Sean.

“Well it was nice meeting you Mr. Covey.”

“Please call me Sean and you too champ!” said Sean.

They both grinned and walked away. This shows how meeting someone new is always a good thing. Also that telling somebody if you’re getting abused or ever did can help you heal and get better.
